For Immediate Release

META Performing Arts will hold auditions for it's upcoming production of the Tony-award winning musical "Bye Bye Birdie", Monday and Tuesday, August 27th and 28th from 6pm until 9pm at the Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon, across from Skagit Valley Hospital.

The shows' performances will run from November 16th through November 25th at McIntyre Hall, Mt. Vernon. The cast will include many teens and near-teens, plus some children and some adults. Several of the lead roles are for adults.

Interested parties should prepare a one-minute song, and, if interested in a speaking part, a one- minute monologue. To schedule a time for your audition, or for more information, call 360-466-3072.

Bye Bye Birdie is a satire on American society, set in the early '60s, focusing on the lives of Conrad Birdie, a rock and roll superstar (a la Elvis Presley), his agent and songwriter Albert Peterson, Albert's secretary and sweetheart Rose Alvarez, and an all-American family, the Macafees, who get tangled in the drama and comedy that surrounds Birdie's changing lifestyle.

The times may change but the drama and humor of romance, celebrity worship, and the generation gap are ageless. Classic hit songs, "We've Got a Lot of Living To Do", "Put On a Happy Face" and "Spanish Rose" are just a few of the numbers audiences will recall as the residents of Sweet Apple, Ohio, turn themselves inside out to accommodate the thankless Birdie.

META Performing Arts celebrates its' tenth anniversary this year as Skagit Valley's only non-profit youth theatre. Auditions are open to everyone, not just Skagit residents. The mission of META Performing Arts is to nurture the spirit of our youth, while building both performance- based skills and life skills.
